One of our clients was facing frequent replacements on the Slab Tilting Machine in a Steel Melting Shop for the set of Universal Joints being used (Needle bearing type, imported from Germany)
Understanding clients’ problems & offering solutions has been our motto.
The previously used Extendable Universal Joint often suffered from worn-out spline shafts since the application required the shaft to extend and compress in operation. due to reduced lubrication, since the application did not allow space for a lubricant retaining boot. Dust accumulation was another headache creating more friction for the male/female spline movement.
ROTAR UNIVERSAL JOINT'S new solution was to introduce a Heat Resistant Sleeveon the uncovered portion of the splines, fixed on the male spline side, sliding freely along the sleeve diameter. This keeps the dust away & also acts a lubricant retainer for the splines.
As a result of this minor addition, client noticed a vast improvement in the life of the Extendable Universal Joint. And even recommending us to other Steel Plants, for similar applications.
The spline shaft length is dimensioned so there is always a gap for lubricant under the cover, even at closed length. To further improve the spline shaft’s lifetime, it is nitride heat-treated for hardness and wear resistance.
